I need to get a cape. And I think the "advocate for the imagination" guy should be our new mascot.
lol
Capes for everyone! (Well, capes and chocolate.)
Where form meets function.
I would like both a cap and a cape
mark, i love this story and its art. serves a purpose and is good-looking, too.
=)
Mark, in your beautiful "About Us" storybird, you say "For families and friends, we're building a service...." What about "For students and teachers"? I see this as having tremendous potential for collaborative formal as well as informal learning (producing, prose and poetry writing, new media literacy and digital citizenship, etc.). I'm sure you've all thought a lot about this, but I think it should be right up front in marketing materials. I'm excited about the potential for artists too - and for collaboration between students and professional artists. Talk about authentic learning! Anyway, go Storybird!
@quasimime: I'm going to use that as a compliment for me too ;)
@anncollier: Absolutely. Teachers and students are a big part of our plans going forward. Given our short-term constraints (ie. being a bootstrapped startup) we're focused on the family/friend connection. But once we have some velocity—teachers and students come next. Not only because it can help with various learning styles, but also because it links the student/teacher relationship to the parents...a relationship we've seen drift further and further apart in schools.

I just have one question after reading this.
What kind of CHEESE?
(You understand that I'm much more a cheese girl than a chocolate one.)
It would have to be goat cheese and mozzarella, particularly with tomatoes and crusty bread. But the key is to chase it down with a small bit of 72% dark ;)

What a great discovery...I found the link on one of West Australian Education Department's recommended resource lists. I run programs for gifted and talented primary students and plan to use this as the main tool for a course next year. Love the way it encourages imagination and uses some fantastic art as a starting point.....
Thanks everyone. We appreciate the love and all the great feedback. Remember to drop us a line every now and again on how you're using Storybird with your family or students. We LOVE that kind of stuff.

@daddylove678: thanks for the kind words about Storybird and my stories in particular. If you'd like to learn more about Storybird, you can read http://blog.storybird.com/2009/03/prologue/
If you'd like more stories, well...those pop out of my head only when they feel like it, so you'll have to wait—just like me. But there are other great authors on the site, like missK, Betty, and Nyx, all who are writing fantastic stuff.
And, of course, the world is waiting for your stories. That's what's great about Storybird. You can read, but you can write. And what you write is just as important as anyone else's stuff.
OK that sound like a great place to look on for more story bird stuff thanks!!!

Hi! amberbridge
I have added a blog post on my blog for teachers who teach at my school as well as for teachers at other districts. I am hoping they will use your site for poems that students create.

I'm afraid I've received neither a cape nor chocolate. As much as this saddens me, I'm generally not one to complain. Some nice stories have compensated for this oversight.
I've just found this place and I LOVE IT!!
Thanks
Thanks @luzmar: we love it too :)

WOW. your good.
Mark - great website. My students love this site. Currently, students are creating stories with their learning partners in the classroom. Soon, we will also create stories collaboratively with students at a different school.
I have many students who are using this at home and creating stories by themselves.
I learned about this site at a conference.
Thank you so so so much!
