It's interesting how we came up with very similar themes from this art.
Funny you should mention that. I was thinking how using Storybird reveals themes in the artist's work as you interact with it. On the surface, Pascal has a lot of adventure. But when you peel it back the common thread is companionship and friendship.
Case in point: I started to write this as the adventure of the orange chair. But in the end, Max and Sam became the narrative.
Years ago I read a quote from Woody Allen's editor Ralph Rosenblum who (now famously) noted "editing is directing the second time around." This is becoming very clear to me as I use Storybird.

Wow, loving Pascal's art - the chair is just magical.

Gorgeous, and really stirring use of narrative and artwork. Thanks!

i can totally see warner bros. taking this story in a couple years and making it into a movie! much better than a wheres waldo movie...;)
@tandrusiak: thanks muchly. Same for you @andy. And I agree: Sam, Max, and the orange chair would make a great film. Someone send this link to the execs at Pixar or Dreamworks.

We think this story is the best. You've really described the friendship of Max and Sam but we like how you've left a lot of the story up to our imagination. Thank you for writing this story. We think you should have it published.
Thanks guys. I'm glad you like the story. I take the comment about having it published as a compliment, too. But the nice thing about Storybird is that Sam & Max IS published. It's here, and there, and everywhere, really. And soon you'll be able to get a copy physically. We think that's the new kind of publishing: something that's a bit more elastic and rubbery than before.
BTW, you guys rock. Saw you on Twitter!

Beautiful!!! That SB was GREAT! You should think about writing book then making it into a movie!
Mark... There is this website called Aviary. It's great if you are inrested in making pictures or making a song/sound.
Thanks @speedy6500. I think Pascal's artwork is incredibly cinematic. He's an animator by trade—so that's why. I love the Aviary guys. They make awesome creative tools.
Brilliant.
I really like this, I used some of the same drawings but I think I wrote too much yours is much simpler and more effective
@Purplesteffi: I think that's one of the most intriguing parts about Storybird—how each of us interpret the art and make sense of it for our stories. Personally, I really like what you did with yours ;)

Wow, I don't think there's much I can say that hasn't already been said. Beautifully written, a heartfelt narrative that we can all connect with. A (relatively) short story, but you just know that there is so much more behind it. Fantastic work.
nice story
A very beautiful story, the narrative is simple but very meaningful. It can be a cute story for children or have a deeper meaning to older people. I love the way the art creates the theme for the story - absurd_bird and I are currently in the process of creating a storybird with Pascal Campion's Orange chair art. I think that it's so versatile - it can be used to display adventurous romps or meaningful narratives like this one. I look forward to reading more great storybirds from you.
That's an awesome story! Hey,can you try reading some of mine? I know yours are WAY better but what about trying something new today.

OMG I'M SHARING IT ON TWITTER.
Dear Mark,
I'm typhie and I enjoy writing stories like war time and the girl and the bear but I understand their not suitable for others. Is there another site I can write stories like that are violent?
@typhie: a few things come to mind. First, why not just keep them private? Then they stay undmoderated. Second, maybe it's the way you're approaching violence. Look at my story "Feeling the sun but showing the moon." The boy gets murdered by the bear at the end. But it's done with "offstage" violence. It's suggestive and discrete. Finally, if neither of these ideas help, consider something like Protagonize. It's pure writing (no pictures), but if you're looking for social interaction with your stories, they don't have a young audience to be mindful of like we do. Good luck!
thx for reading one of my books i love yours hey can you check out my friends books they are awesome her name is lizzie2 she wrote the the girl who got in big trouble check out that on please
Thanks sooooo much mark! Your the best. I think I'll just stick with storybird but keep the 'violent type' private. Thanks!
P.S last night i got back from england and now im at my home! The flight took so long!
Really good and by the way don't do to much pages
Simple, but possibly one of the sweetest, most honest things I've ever heard. It takes place in clouds too, and I love clouds :)))

This story makes me think of how you can be apart from good friends for a long time, but you always come back together and it's like you saw each other only yesterday. There is nothing like the strength of an old and long friendship.

There is a website called fanfiction.net where you can write stories about your favorite books and post them for others to read....
@polgar: I'm one of the inventors of Storybird, so my work gets noticed more than others. And, once your work gets noticed, it gets noticed more often.
Loved it
i think this is a really cute story is shows how friends can help you in hard times of need.

The story flows very well with the art
Had to come back for another view. This story is a good example of having the words communicate with the art.
By the way; I'm thinking about deleting my story of: Wonders in the Jungle, because i think that nobody really likes it.
Thanks so much, mark!
I did write my stories because of what I felt. It was just hard to have a story that I felt proud of and hardly anybody recognized it. But when i look at other peoples story birds I realized that I was not the only one. There are plenty of AWESOME story birds that I added to my reading list. They had only about..... well 0 views except for me so I commented because I liked their stories.
Thanks again,mark
P.S. I hope you write some more stories. And I will not be deleting any of my stories.
i like your storybird $$$(thank money$$$

Awesome story-how come we can't find Pascal Champion's old art (like the ones you used in this story) anymore? Could he not upgrade it to high-res, or something?
@smiley316: yeah, he couldn't find the hi-res versions of these (Pascal is an animator and draws a ton of images each week, so image management is kinda tricky for him ;)
love the stories!
