Community Guidelines

Storybird helps people connect, play, and create and enjoy stories. Like a game, it’s meant to be fun and give you hours of enjoyment. And, like a game, it comes with some rules. That way, as Monica Geller might say, everyone knows how to have fun.

Things that make Storybird fun:
  • Making and sharing your stories. That’s the heart of the community.
  • Inviting your family and friends to make stories with you. The more the merrier.
  • Commenting or hearting on stories you admire. That’s good karma.
  • Being nice. Because it’s nice to be nice to the nice.
  • Adding an age range to your stories. That helps people find material for different reading levels.
Things that make Storybird un-fun:
  • Using racist, obscene, derogatory, sexist, or hateful language. That gets you banned.
  • Uploading inappropriate material. It’ll be deleted. And you’ll get banned.
  • Uploading art or stories that aren’t yours. That’s cheating. It’ll get you in trouble.
  • Giving out personal information. If you’re a kid—never do that. It’s not safe.
  • Asking kids for personal information. Not only will we ban you, we’ll call the cops.
A few other things:
  • Do use comments to celebrate someone’s work—not draw attention to yours.
  • Do use tags and summaries to describe your story—not SPAM the system.
  • Do keep comments nice. If you bully or threaten people—you’re out.
  • Don’t scan and upload other books, even those in the public domain.
  • Don't use other authors' work in your Storybirds.
  • Don’t include commercials, product marketing, SPAM, etc. in your Storybirds.
  • Don't include violent or sexually explicit content in your Storybirds.
  • Don’t use Storybird for religious or political expression.
  • Don't include personal information in your Storybirds or comments such as phone numbers, location, etc.

Remember, Storybird is family friendly and all Storybirds submitted to our public library must be appropriate for children.

Finally, while we celebrate all cultures and languages, we can not at this time moderate and thus approve Storybirds for the public library that are written in languages other than English. We will be expanding internationally soon, and we will add specific language support as we do. In the meantime, the stories can still be published in your private library and shared with your family and friends.
