The Storm
The beginning
Thunder crashed outside my window. The rain danced gracefully with the wind. The t.v. flickered to the weather alert. It beeped and said, “Alert. Hurricane watch from 9:30 am to 10:00 pm.” The t.v. turned off. I turned it back on and changed it to the weather channel.
“Today it will be cloudy with a chance of meatballs. Wait, what? Sorry. Cloudy with a chance of thunderstorms.” the weatherman stepped off of the camera for a second. “ Wait! This just in! Tornado storm cell heading towards Mellville! Take cover now!” he warned.
Suddenly the lights flickered over head. I looked towards the window.
“Mom? The sky’s turning green!” I exclaimed.
“Quick! Get blankets and flashlights!” she yelled over the wind. “And come to the basement!” she added quickly.
I grabbed the closest blankets and found some flashlights on the counter. I ran to the stairs of the basement, but tripped over something. I looked down. A little white kitten was purring at my ankles. Picked her up and started running again. I hurried down the basement stairs, juggling all, of the stuff I was holding.
Finally, I got to the basement. My mom was surrounded with snacks.
“Thank goodness! You’re okay!” she exclaimed!
“Yeah.” I breathed. “Where’s Jo? An Dad?”
“Oh no!” She exclaimed. Jo and my dad had gone missing!
