death can come unexpected
A girl in the grave
CHAPTER
1
readying for the interview
my name is Lauren, I am 16, and this is the story of how I died.
I wake up in a cold sweat, and my breathing is heavy. As I gain my conscience I look at my my clock to see what time of day it could possibly be, As my sleepy eyes reach the clock I read 10:36, I soon realize that it is sunday morning and I’m going to be late for my job interview. I notice my long fingernails are gripping my soft pillow case harshly. I stare at my knuckles and observe the scratches from yesterdays gardening with mom, then I slowly release my grip and sit upright struggling to support myself with my arms. I look over my bed set carefully, I have a silk comforter, and pillowcases. Both are lined with thin ruffles at the edges. I look out the window next to my bed and realize that it is raining, As I imagine what kind of trouble it will give me, I sigh and take the silk comforter off of my pale legs. I look at the pictures on my walls and put my legs on the floor next to my bed, I look down at my feet and remember the day when Natalie took me to the nail salon to celebrate the first day of spring. we both got nice pedicures, we got the same design so we could be matching, cherry red polish with marshmallow white polka dots. I stumble across the floor to my closet, I take a moment to look over my posters on the door, and I open the door and look through my shirts hanging on the single white rod, I choose a soft navy blue one with “cool cat” written in cursive on the front, then I squat down on the floor to open a small plastic container with three clear plastic drawers, I pull out the drawer clearly labeled “skinny jeans”, I grab a pair of light colored levi’s and shut the drawer with more force than necessary and stand up. I turn around to find my small shelving unit for my shoes, I decide on a pair of short brown leather boots. they have heels and small chains wrapped around the ankles, I turn off the light and walk out and shut the door. I grab a longer necklace with a heart shaped crystal at the end and some studs for my earrings. I undress out of my pajamas and into my other clothes, I look in the mirror and notice my messy hair. my night clothes are on the ground so I pick them up and put them in the hamper by my door. I quickly jog into my bathroom and brush my hair and put it in a nice braid. then I grab my purse and run downstairs to grab a granola bar, and head out the door.
