How long can you last lying to Those you say you love?
Swimming In Lies
Amelia’s POV
When we arrived at Base-Random-Numbers, Charlie and his Hooligans threw a bag over my head and dragged me inside. When they took the bag off, we were in a completely white room. I sat on a white chair, across the white table from Charlie, who was also in a white chair.
I decided to start the conversation. “So, Charlie, why exactly did you choose me to save Adam?” I asked.
He raised an eyebrow. “Isn’t it obvious? You care for Adam, you’re a good liar, and you’re the first person we could find who fit all the criteria.”
I thought about it. “Okay. But why did you save me?” I asked. This Charlie guy left a lot of holes in the story.
He shrugged. “Saving people is kind of the family business. When we saw all the helicopters, we thought we’d see what was going on. When we found out it was you, we knew we had to save you.”
I was still confused. “How do you know who I am?”
Charlie suddenly seemed very nervous. “Uh, well, you know Dylan? He’s in your Science class? He’s kind of an agent too. He’s been stalking you since the 4th grade. We know everything about you and Ryan.”
My eyes widened and my jaw dropped. “You’ve been stalking me?” I nearly screamed.
Charlie shushed me. “Not just you! Dylan has been observing everyone. We’ve been looking for a new recruit, and so far, you’re the best one we’ve found. You became our focus around 7th grade.”
I tried to understand everything he was saying. “So you’ve been recruiting spies,”
“Agents. Spies are different.” Charlie interrupted.
“Whatever. You’ve been recruiting people, I became the agent you needed, so you saved me from Ryan and now you want me to save Adam?” I clarified. Charlie just nodded.
“Fine. So, how are we going to do this?” I asked simply.
Charlie seemed stunned. “Wait, what? You’re just going to accept that answer and move on? You’re okay with the fact that we’ve stalked you for years and now we want you to be a Secret Agent?”
I shrugged. “After everything that happened with Ryan, this is the least weird thing that has happened. So, Charlie Boy, how are we saving Adam?” I sat on the edge of the table.
“First of all, don’t call me Charlie Boy. Secondly, we’ll get to that after we get you through registration. Finally, don’t sit on the table. It’s actually a high tech tablet. Your weight could break the very fragile screen.”
I gasped sarcastically. “Are you saying I’m fat?” I asked over dramatically.
Charlie chuckled at me. “Depends. What is your BMI?” He asked, leaning on the table.
“Average. And I thought you said that this was a very high tech tablet that had a very fragile screen that would break under my weight?” I noted smirking.
“Touché, Agent Whaleia.” Charlie replied smugly.
“Agent Whaleia? What’s “Whaleia?” I asked, confused by his joke.
“Well, metaphorically speaking, you are the size of a whale, and your name is Amelia. So, I shall call you Whaleia.” Charlie seemed proud of his insult.
“You ruined the joke by calling it a metaphor, Charlie Boy. Now, come on. Let’s go get me registered.” I hopped off the table and ran out the room.
