The Heroes of Mossfall forest
CHAPTER
17
I’m glad I met you
They moved throughout the forest, passing areas A8, A7, A6 and A5 before they had to stop. Jayden walked dizzily away from his friends and threw up behind a tree. He did his best to make his way back.
“only four markers to go. ” Aiden said. They kept moving, until the sun had completely gone down. They all went to sleep. Jayden hoped that there wouldn’t be any dream tonight, and by some chance, there wasn’t.
Jayden woke up the next morning feeling good. Caleb sickness had came back to him though. They were almost out of the forest. It would only take half the day to get into Cerrina.
“Let’s go.” Jayden said as they finished eating and cleaning thier camp. They started walking. Eventually they reached the guard station Caleb used to work at. The girl, Alex, the one who had helped save Jayden that day came running out.
“What… What happened to him?”
“That’s a long story. We need you to help us get him to a medic station.”
“Of course.” Alex said.
They got caleb to a med station in less than an hour. They were searching for abigail. Jayden searched every remedy lab in the building. He met his friends in Calebs room.
“She’s in Myrfall.” Cara said.
“I know. It’s not far from here. I can go. I’ll be back tomorrow morning.” Jayden said.
“I’m coming with you.” Cara said.
“Cara…” Aiden said, trying to stop her.
“It wasn’t an offer. I’m the only one who knows what he’s feeling. I have to.”
Aiden didn’t argue. They grabbed thier bags and left. They made it quickly out of Cerrina.
“Cara… This is going to sound weird, but I’m glad I met you. It’s nice to have someone who understands me, and I feel like if I hadn’t met you, me and Caleb would both be dead.”
“Honestly, I feel the same way. I’m glad I met you. Aidens been my pathfinding partner since we were young, but he gets scared sometimes. You’re fearless.”
“I don’t belive in fearlessness.”
“What does that mean?”
“I don’t think a person can truly be fearless. Fear is part of being a human. To me being fearless means ignoring your fear, and pushing it away.” Jayden explained.
They talked for awhile longer, Laughing a little too, until the sun had almost gone down and they reached Myrfall.
“How are we going to get to your sister?” Cara asked.
“The leader’s mansion has three floors. All of the bedrooms are on the bottom. We just have to figure out which one is hers.”
“You don’t know?”
“I haven’t been here for nine years.”
“Good point. Lets get looking.”
They snuck along the walls of the building, looking for abigail’s room. The first two they checked were wrong. They came across Jayden’s old room, nothing had changed in nine years. Even his closet was still open. The next room was the right one. Abigail was sitting at a desk, writing something. Jayden knocked on the window. She looked up and saw him. She locked the door. She walked over to the window and opened it.
“In.” She said.
Jayden climbed through the window, and helped Cara through.
“What do you need?”
Someone moved the doorknob. They got the door open. Jayden’s mom walked in. She stared for a minute.
“Jayden… You’re okay?” She said.
“Yes… and no.” Jayden replied.
“What do you mean?”
“I’m alive, my best friend won’t be for long.”
“What…”
“Thats why I’m here. I need Abigail to help me. Calebs in cerrina, and he’s almost dead. I need her to help me save his live.”
“Go.” His mom said.
His mom lead them to the front of the mansion.
“I’m glad you’re not dead, Jayden.” His mom said as they left.
They walked quietly half of the way there.
“Jayden… Are you okay?” Cara asked.
“Yeah… Why?” Jayden said.
“Oh… uh… nothing… nevermind.” Cara said.
“Cara… I’m fine.”
They made it back to Cerrina as the sun came up. Everything was exactly as they left it.
“Do you have a Divine something?” Abigail asked.
“Yeah.”
Jayden grabbed the flower and gave it to her.
“Is it enchanted?”
“No. That’s what I need you for.” Jayden said.
“Okay. Lets go to the lab.”
They walked up to the lab. Abigail put the flower down and filled a bowl with hot water. She cut the top of the flower and put it into the water. She out her hands above the water and closed her eyes. She stayed like that for awhile, until the water in the bowl turned the same yellow as the flower.
“Now to step two.” She said.
